Eli Lilly and Virginia Mason – Improving Patient Health

Nearly 140 years ago, Col. Eli Lilly, a man committed to creating high-quality medicines that met real needs in an era of unreliable elixirs, set a vision for his new Eli Lilly and Company (Lilly), “Take what you find here and make it better and better.”

Both Lilly and Virginia Mason are focused on helping patients live longer, healthier, more active lives, as well as increasing the value patients receive by improving quality. Dave Ricks, Lilly’s CEO, puts it this way: "We’re trying to change the frontiers of what’s possible in medicine. Our vision is to change patients’ expectations — to provide a new sense of hope for people suffering from some of the world’s most debilitating diseases."

Lilly helped raise awareness of the inspiring research underway at the Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason (BRI) through their presenting sponsorship of the 2016 Illuminations Luncheon. As one of only 12 research institutes in the country that is part of a health system with a medical center, BRI is uniquely poised to make a significant difference in the lives of patients' treatment and in providing hope for prevention to those impacted by diseases of the immune system. And, raising awareness is just the beginning.

Lilly and Virginia Mason are working to build partnership through education to make sure providers and patients have access to the resources they need to manage disease and live a healthier life. Whether autoimmune disease or diabetes, Lilly is aligned with Virginia Mason’s vision to be the Quality Leader and committed to helping Virginia Mason make patient care better.

“We’re excited about our relationship with Lilly and the great potential it brings to improve the health and well-being of our patients,” says Jeanne Jachim, President of the Virginia Mason Foundation.
