Donors Make Legacy Gifts

“What we do for ourselves dies with us. What we do for others and the world remains and is immortal.”
— Albert Pike

“Many people give significant legacy gifts to Virginia Mason in gratitude for the care they or a loved has received and out of a desire to support our critical work in patient care and research,” says Jennifer Kim, Director, Major and Planned Gifts, Virginia Mason Foundation. “These gifts have an enormous impact on providing people with the best care and supporting breakthrough medical research.”

Supporting Virginia Mason’s Mission
Legacy gifts make a lasting influence on Virginia Mason’s mission “to improve the health and well-being of the patients we serve.” Donors often make these gifts through a charitable bequest. A bequest is perhaps the easiest and most tangible way to have a lasting impact on the people and organizations that mean the most to you. A charitable bequest is written in a will or trust that directs a gift to be made to a qualified exempt charity when you pass away.

One benefit of a charitable bequest is that it enables you to advance the excellent work of an organization you support long after you are gone. A charitable bequest also can help you save estate taxes by providing your estate with a charitable deduction for the value of the gift. With careful planning, your family can also avoid paying income taxes on the assets they receive from your estate.

“Legacy gifts are critical to our institution,” says Jennifer. “We can’t thank our donors enough for their generosity and these remarkable gifts.”
