Giving Tuesday Raises More Than $43,000

Thanks to more than 200 community members and supporters, our 2018 Giving Tuesday campaign raised over $43,000!

Every year, Giving Tuesday gives organizations around the world a chance to encourage people to give back during the holiday season.

“We started participating in Giving Tuesday in 2015 because it seemed like a great way to boost fundraising and reach more people online,” says Becky Pogany, associate director of Virginia Mason Foundation’s Annual Fund. “Since then, we’ve grown the campaign, promoting it through our website, email, social media and more, and we’re really excited about how successful it’s been.”

Virginia Mason employees were particularly large contributors to this year’s campaign, thanks in part to a generous pledge from Virginia Mason President Sue Anderson: She promised to match every employee donation to Bailey-Boushay House (BBH) up to $10,000.

“Bailey-Boushay House is near and dear to my heart,” Sue says. “As someone who lives in the Madison Park area, I know our neighbors and community can see the life-changing work we are doing to support our residents and clients. I’m so grateful for everyone’s support to help Bailey-Boushay House build a better community.”

We also received generous donations from people outside Virginia Mason, fueling our work with gifts of all sizes. We invited them to support programs close to their hearts by directing their gifts to specific areas.

Giving Tuesday donors were particularly excited to support BBH after seeing how small donations can make a big difference. For example, our campaign showcased how $18 provides toiletries for a client, while $48 funds dinner for a week.

Benaroya Research Institute, our research arm dedicated to predicting, preventing, treating and curing diseases of the immune system, and our Fund for Excellence, which supports a variety of immediate needs throughout Virginia Mason, also received exceptional support.

“We’re so thankful for everyone who chose to support the Virginia Mason Health System this holiday season,” Becky says. “These donations will have a big impact, funding everything from cancer research to patient services to compassionate programs for people with HIV/AIDS.”
