“They Just ‘Wow’ Us:” Why the De Bruyns Support BRI and Virginia Mason

Groundbreaking research and quality care have inspired David and Katherine De Bruyn to support BRI and Virginia Mason for over a decade.

“They just ‘wow’ us,” Katherine says. “BRI really takes you into the science and we’re very impressed by Virginia Mason’s commitment to quality care.”

They’ve made generous donations to BRI’s research, continuing education at Virginia Mason and have included us in their estate plans.

“BRI and Virginia Mason are leading-edge medical organizations — one research and one practical application,” David says. “They are connected. That’s never been better illustrated than when blood samples from COVID patients were taken across the street to BRI for research on COVID-19. It is a privilege to be part of that.”

Katherine also volunteers as a patient family partner, helping shape processes that improve patient care. And that’s just one piece of their volunteer work: They each serve on four nonprofit boards.

Katherine serves on the Town Hall Seattle board, and helped make the connections to put on BRI’s recent Town Hall event. The couple also made a generous donation to make the event possible. Over 400 viewers tuned in to learn about BRI’s COVID-19 research.

“Our hearts are so invested in BRI and Virginia Mason,” Katherine says. “Their teams are so committed and really care about their work. We do everything we can to support that.”
